Founded in 2012 by author and data journalist David McCandless in collaboration with Kantar creative director Aziz Cami, the Awards honour excellence in data visualization, infographics and information art.

In an era where ‘big data’ is a buzzword and we are all surrounded by vast amounts of information in ever-evolving forms, data visualization is increasingly being recognized as a sophisticated art that makes that information more accessible, understandable, usable and beautiful.

This year the Awards has expanded upon its community-centric focus, opening the field to nominations from members of the general public. Individuals, publishers and small independent studios that create their own infographics and visualizations have been able to enter non-commercial work for free, meaning that the Awards truly reflects the breadth of quality design on today’s scene.
